Miami hosts Chicago without Messi as Lewandowski debuts

Second-place Miami hosts third-place Chicago at Nu Stadium three days after Argentina’s World Cup final. Lionel Messi is out; Robert Lewandowski is listed for his Chicago debut — and the market still leaves room for a draw.

How this market pays

You’re betting on the result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time at Nu Stadium — no extra time, no penalties. Miami, Chicago Fire, and Tie are separate sides; only one collects.

Your bet Chance Wins if… $100 bet pays
Miami 42% Miami wins in regulation plus stoppage ~$228
Chicago Fire 37% Chicago wins in regulation plus stoppage ~$258
Tie 23% the match is level after stoppage time ~$412

If the match is delayed but finished within Kalshi’s window, that result still decides the bet. Kalshi confirms the official MLS result.

How to look at each side

The case for Miami. Inter Miami sits second in the East on 31 points after 15 games and is the defending MLS Cup champion. Even without Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul — both coming off Argentina’s July 19 World Cup final loss to Spain after Messi logged 740 tournament minutes — the Herons still price as the favorite at Nu Stadium. Since an opening loss at the Rose Bowl, Miami has only one other regular-season defeat on the ledger. That is the Miami case: table position, champion depth, and home venue to open the second half of the schedule.

The case for Chicago. The Fire are third on 26 points with a three-game win streak into the World Cup break and one of the East’s tighter defensive records at 16 goals allowed. Robert Lewandowski is set for his MLS debut after Chicago’s July 16 home opener was postponed to October. The Fire also won 5–3 in South Florida on September 20, 2025, the night they clinched their first playoff berth since 2017, and they took a 0–0 point at Soldier Field on April 13. That is the Chicago case: form, a debut striker, and recent South Florida results.

The case for a draw. These clubs already shared points in a 0–0 at Soldier Field on April 13, 2026. Miami is only 2-3-1 at Nu Stadium this season despite a 7-1-1 road mark, so the new building has not played like a fortress. Chicago’s first visit arrives while Miami’s World Cup contingent sits and after Hugo Cuypers — the Golden Boot leader with 13 goals — transferred to Monterrey. A level game after stoppage still prices near a quarter of the market for a reason — especially in a three-way market where neither club needs a win tonight to stay in the East’s top tier.

What the odds are saying

Miami at 42%, Chicago at 37%, and Tie at 23% means the market treats this as a three-way scramble, not a home lock. That is the first fact to respect.

Today the market moved toward Chicago — Miami down about four percentage points since midnight ET, Chicago up about five — as Messi’s absence and Lewandowski’s debut both became harder to ignore.

2 reasons Miami’s 42% chance can still move:

  1. Nu Stadium has not been a fortress. Miami’s 2-3-1 home split undercuts the usual “favorites at home” read even before you price a Messi-less attack.
  2. Chicago already took a point in the first meeting. The April 0–0 at Soldier Field is a real base rate for another low-event night if Lewandowski’s debut is quiet.

What to watch
